THE STUDIO

Hi. Welcome to my favorite place: the studio. As I spend most of my time here, I made it into the perfect space in terms of sound, gear and vibe. Some might say ‘this is where the magic happens’, but I’d say: this is where the hard work happens (and yes, occasionally some magic happens).

what happens in the studio…

…also has to sound great outside the studio. That’s why the studio has good acoustic treatment and top notch speakers, so the mix will not only sound good in the studio but at any other place as well.

original studio, original soundtracks

The studio is geared up and all set to produce and compose music, sounds, and soundtracks for all kinds of purposes: commercials, films, recording an album, mixing, you name it. I like to work directly with directors and creatives, therefore I made the studio not only an inviting place to make music, but also to meet, play, jam, and most importantly: listen.

gear

I love vintage synths and analog drum computers. My collection is always changing and growing, but at the time of writing, this is what you’ll find in my studio:

Sequential Prophet 5, Roland Juno 106, Sequential Pro One, Oberheim SEM, Yamaha DX7, Casio MT, KORG Mono/Poly, Roland JV 1080, Modular synth rack (with o.a. Buchla x tiptop, makenoise and much more), KORG MS-20, Elektron Analog Rhythm, MXR flanger/doubler, Davoli Spring Reverb, Vermona Spring Reverb, Vermona DRM mk2, Elektron Digitone, Sequential Drumtraks, Simmons SDS 800, MAM 303 clone, Revox 15ips tape deck, Dynacord echo, Elektron Analog Heat, Strymon Timeline & Bluesky, UAD Apollo audio interface, PSI monitors, Genelec monitors, a jumping cat calender, a nice couch and much more!

the whole shebang: music, sound design & post production

To me, in an ideal commission or collaboration sound comes as a full-package. Sound is not separated from the music track, and post production is also part of the creative process. I love merging these parts together and see it as a whole. A nice collection of microphones allows me to record voice overs as well as to capture custom sounds for custom sound design. And in my compositions sound-effects blend with the soundtrack, while mixing adds color and makes sure each layer of music can be heard sharply whether it’s a television commercial, or online ad, short film or album.

where is it?

The studio is located in Rotterdam, inside the creative hub Gusto 45. The building was originally part of the Gusto shipyard, and with its high ceilings and large windows it was perfect to construct dredgers and floating cranes. When the shipyard closed in 1978, the building was taken over by creatives. A few centuries later, in 2023 I became part of it and transformed a former architecture office into a fully sound-proof and sound-tight studio which is perfectly accessible by car.
